In the US, there are thousands of books published each day, including self-published books. With that many new books added to books already in print, how can you find the perfect book for you?
Check your favorite genres for authors you might have overlooked or new authors. Start at your local library to see which books in that genre are featured or checked out most often. Or your favorite author may have a new series out.
Read reviews or recommendations on Goodreads, Amazon, book blogs, or BookTok. There is no end to TikToks that lists favorite and least favorite books. Look for ones that match your interests and tastes. Follow popular social media influencers who discuss books.
Follow your favorite authors. Each author has a distinct style that draws some readers while not reaching others.
Join a book club to discover new genres and authors you might not find on your own. Discussing them with others is a bonus.
Search bestseller lists like the New York Times Best Sellers or Amazon's Top 100 by genre.
Trade books with a friend who has similar tastes. Or be willing to try one they enjoyed that you're unsure about.
Ask for recommendations from booksellers or librarians. They can suggest books based on your interests, style, genre, and favorite authors.
Read the first chapter. Don't waste your time if the plot and characters don't engage you.
How do you choose what book to read next? What's on your To Be Read list?
